One of my nearest and dearest friends just got engaged. Crazy to think my gal pals are heading down the aisle now (ah!) but I'm more than excited for her, and the fact that I get to be one of her bridesmaids (my first time eva!).
For her and her fiance's engagement party, I decided to get down with my crafty roots and gift them something sweet and significant. I admit I found the original idea of putting three milestone dates on a portrait from Pinterest, but the font, style and watercolors are all my own. Here's how I did it:
1) Buy a frame you love at Michael's. (Tip: download the Michael's app on your phone - they ALWAYS have coupons... really good ones!)
2) Cut your watercolor paper (Michael's, $9.99) to fit the frame. Using watercolor paint (Michael's, $14.99), doodle whatever design your little heart desires. I chose to frame two corners in florals. The wedding's main color is burgundy, so I went with big red flowers. You can also frame the whole thing in flowers, like a border, or paint over large areas in light colors.
3) After the paint dries, take a ruler and measure out 3 lines, with equally measured spaces in the middle for your text. I first went through with a pencil and drew out my numbers and text, then went back over them with a Sharpie. You can paint this part, too, I just found it more precise to draw.
