Faking it. We all do it. No, you dirty mind you, not that. I'm talking about styling your Instagram posts!
Picture this: a baby pink peony laid next to an askewed golden pair of scissors, alongside a white flowing ribbon and a polka dot coffee mug donning the inspirational quote "dance in the rain." Basic? Maybe. Like-worthy? 100%.
Some of my favorite Instas to follow include StudioDIY, Be Inspired PR, and Paintbox Nail Salon . I personally think they do an amazing job at curating creative content. These accounts' personalities shine right through their photos. Objects are laid out geometrically, evoke an element of fun (a champagne glass, a party tassel, a dripping ice cream cone...) and are "popped" against a vibrant background.
Solid color backgrounds (the more fun color the better!) provide the perfect foundation for the styled Instagram. That's not to say patterned or textured backgrounds don't do the trick, but more on that another time. If you're going to be posting up a storm, follow these instructions to create your very own quick and easy 'background board!'
1) Buy a large, solid white foam board (Walmart, $8).
2) Pick out your favorite colors of scrapbook paper (Michael's, $0.69 each).
3) Glue the color squares to the board, keeping at least one square area white for anytime you'd like to use a plain white background.
Business accounts should post strategically, and keep a color theme in mind. For Alexa Lynn Photography, I like to stick with bright but paler hues, mainly pink and yellow, but also a lot of muted greens, blues and of course, white. With a nifty background board you can store in your closet, you have as many colored backgrounds as you desire at hand to place your objects in an already formatted square shape! Be careful not to bend the board to much or get any (coffee) stains on the squares for longer use. Happy 'gramming!
